What is this book?

Osaka Expo Adventures A–Z

Inspired by my nearly 40 visits to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, this English-learning book turns the wonder of the Expo into a learning adventure. Told through the eyes of two curious teenage characters on an assignment from their English teacher, it transforms pavilion exhibits, cultural encounters, and conversations into engaging lessons and activities.

Learners build English skills while exploring countries, cool exhibits, cultures, and connections — one letter at a time. More than just a book, it is my way of keeping the Osaka Expo spirit alive.

Meet Miki & Ichiro

Two curious teenagers explore pavilions from around the world at the Expo — using English, asking questions, sharing ideas, and discovering what it means to live in a connected global society.

Told through the eyes of these two young learners, Osaka Expo Adventures A–Z helps English learners build confidence, global curiosity, and communication skills through engaging conversations and activities.

About the author

Created by Yvonne Burton

I am a technology and business communications consultant and founder of Burton Consulting International. My journey with Osaka and Japan began many years ago when I was an exchange student at Kansai Gaidai University. What I expected to be a short chapter of my life became lifelong. I studied Japanese language and culture from the inside out – in daily life and through friendships that changed how I see the world. I lived in Osaka for a few years after school, teaching English and business consulting.

After returning home to New York, I worked as a technology consultant for many years. I also continued teaching business English to Japanese professionals in NYC to strengthen their communication skills for international work. My experiences shaped how I think about communication. I know what it feels like to search for the right words, to worry about making mistakes, and to slowly build confidence, one phrase at a time.

In 2020, I founded Burton Consulting International to bring together my technology, communication, and Japan cross-cultural expertise to help Japanese professionals and companies build the communication and tech fluency skills they need to communicate, connect, and collaborate effectively with global team members, clients, and customers.

My many visits to and love of the Osaka Expo inspired me to create this book. Osaka Expo Adventures A-Z  across 2 volumes (Volume 1: Letters A to M, and Volume 2: Letters N to Z) is about building English skills and confidence,  global awareness,  and carrying forward the magic that was the Expo.
